Dell Latitude 7490: Battery Life

Dell Latitude 7490-Battery Life

The Dell Latitude 7490 delivers a decent battery life there, but we’ve seen better; when we ran Laptop Mag’s battery test (web browsing at 150 nits), the Dell laptop lasted 8 hours and 55 minutes on a charge. used up; the Huawei  Mate Book X Pro (9:55) lasted an hour longer, and the Lenovo Think Pad T480 lasted less time with the default settings (8:07) but more time with the extended battery (17:19).

Security and Durability

The Dell Latitude 7490 features a wealth of security measures to satisfy even the most demanding IT administrators. Additional login methods include a smart card reader, fingerprint sensor, and IR webcam for Windows Hello login, as well as Intel’s v Pro technology for remote management should you need technical support while working remotely. A FIPS 140-2 certified TPM 2.0 chip protects and secures sensitive data, including passwords.

The Latitude 7490 has also passed 15 MIL-SPEC 810G tests, the same standard used to measure the durability of equipment used by the US military. This means that it can with stand temperatures as high as 140 degrees Fahrenheit, travel in extremely humid conditions, shock, vibration, and dust.

Wi-Fi

While all latitudes appear to be the same, the 7490 is the first laptop to offer an optional active steering antenna, which Dell says provides a 40% increase in connection through put over a regular Wi-Fi card. How does it work? The card intelligently adjusts to the surrounding wireless signal, reducing email latency and file upload drops. We do not have Wi-Fi bench marks, so we cannot verify this claim.

Keyboard, Touchpad and Pointing Stick

The Dell Latitude 7490 has a comfortable keyboard and plenty of typing options; we tested the Latitude 7490 in a 10fastfingers.com typing test and were able to type 72 words per minute. This speed and comfort is due to the 1.8mm deep travel and 69grams of actuation force required to press the keys.

Audio

The Dell Latitude 7490 out puts a sound sweet enough for a medium-sized office. Listening to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Run Away with Me” on the note book, her vocals were clear, the bass resonated well, and the synths sounded accurate.

The included Waves Maxx Audio Pro sound utility allows you to disable the sound boost presets, but we recommend leaving the min place. You will see options to adjust width, detail, and bass, but the default settings are just fine.
